Ellie Mead - Tuba
Originally from Manchester, Ellie received an unconditional offer to study under Andrew Duncan, Tony Swainson and Craig Anderson at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2016. She has received lessons and masterclasses from world renowned artists and ensembles such as Ewan Easton, Ben Thomson, Sergio Carolino and Stockholm Chamber Brass.
Alongside Solstice Brass, Ellie has played with numerous ensembles and remains an active member of The Highland band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland performing in such venues as the residence of the British Ambassador in Rome.
Whilst at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Ellie won places on both the BBC Scottish Symphony orchestra and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra apprenticeship schemes and was a finalist in the 2020 Governors Recital Prize for Brass. This has led to Ellie gaining freelance work with the orchestras of the Scottish Ballet and Opera and the Scottish Concert Orchestra.
Ellie is passionate about the benefits of music in the community and has worked with the charity MusicAll in schools for children with additional support needs, aiming to promote inclusion in the music industry. Ellie also has an avid interest in brass pedagogy and gained an ABRSM diploma in instrumental teaching in 2019.
