Tanya McDonald - Trumpet

Tanya is a trumpet player originally from Campbeltown and got into music, aged 9, through her local band Campbeltown Brass. It was during this time with the band that Tanya discovered her love for playing, but also for teaching. In 2016 Tanya enrolled at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, studying under Peter Franks, Nigel Boddice MBE, Mark O’Keeffe, John Gracie and Sandy McGrattan. Throughout her time here, Tanya has enjoyed playing in various ensembles, like the RCS Symphony Orchestra, Solstice Brass and the Con Brass ten piece. RCS has also provided opportunities to play in solo masterclasses with players such as Mike Lovatt, Otto Sauter, Rex Richardson, Huw Morgan and Chris Hart, and ensmble masterclasses with the esteemed Stockholm Chamber Brass and Bones Apart.

As well as her passion for trumpet playing, she has also enjoyed exploring opportunities of creating equality and inclusion, and providing education through music. Through her studies she has worked with the charity MusicALL in schools specialising in additional support needs, Drake Music Scotland – striving for inclusion within the industry and most recently with Big Noise in both Govanhill and Raploch campuses. This has also led to freelance work with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra’s “Vibe” programme in various different settings.
